Book: Plants of the Gods.

Hexing Herbs, witchcraft and hallucinogenic trips to the brink of sense: an old favourite book…

The top one is Doré? And the curly-haired one looks like it is from the same book as the flammarion woodcut.

    Hi Susan,

Unfortunately, the book from which I sourced these images does a pretty lousy job at crediting the artwork.. The top illustration is credited as: ‘Christian, P., /79310/75 de /a Mag/e, Paris 1870′ – upon doing a google search, this does (roughly) lead to the work of Gustav Doré.

The ‘curly-haired’ picture is credited as: ‘Felt, J. M., Drngues et P/anres Mag/nt/es, Paris’ . The caption beneath the image reads, “A woodcut after Holbien depicts a witch of medieval Europe in her garden of hexing herbs’. I agree with you that it looks very similar to the flammarion woodcut..

Thanks for your comment. I have learned something today! :)
