Upon doing some research into Jellyfish forms today, I came across these extraordinary illustrations from German biologist, Ernst Haeckel.
I am floored by the meticulous attention to detail, layout, flow, and use of colour in these works. They look like contemporary artworks. Very inspiring!
As well as being a biologist, Haeckel was also a naturalist, philosopher, physician, professor and (as we can see here) artist. In addition to this myriad of lofty achievements, he was also responsible for the discovery, naming and cataloguing of thousands of new species!
Truly astonishing.
